From an active enthusiast, we have obtained the special red form of the rarely beautiful Giant Lily. This magnificent lily originates from northern Japan, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin, where it grows in coniferous, oak and bamboo forests in cool, damp mountainous areas. The thick stems grow 70 – 200 cm high and emerge from elegant, large, heart-shaped leaves. It blooms in July/August with a cluster of 2-15 trumpet-shaped flowers (12-18 cm in size) with a velvety ruby-red interior and an almost white exterior. This colour is currently very rare! The flowers have large nectar glands at the base of the corolla that secrete a lot of nectar, attracting many bumblebee species, bees and butterflies.
