Baptisia australis

  • Product number: 576500

Not least attractive because of its sky-blue pea-like flowers. You could call it a "giant lupine". On fertile clay (slightly shaded), the plant can shoot up to 2 m high! This perennial (native to North America) is an old acquaintance for Native Americans. The Mohicans already knew about its anti-inflammatory effect. For the creative among us: a blue dye is extracted from the leaves. Good cut flower

Sowing method: Year-round in a seed tray, first provide warmth for 2-4 weeks (18-22° C), then a cold period in e.g. the refrigerator (+4° C) for 4-6 weeks, then gradually warm up to room temperature again, after which germination will follow. The seeds germinate irregularly over a longer germination period. Do not discard the seedlings too quickly. Sowing directly into the ground is also possible; just let winter pass over it, and germination will occur in the spring.
