The beautiful, palm-like, deeply incised leaves grow on long, thin stems. The spathe flowers are purple with green-white stripes. After flowering, bright red berries are formed. It can take a few years for seedlings to flower, as a tuberous rhizome is formed first. Plant them in a not-too-dark, humus-rich spot. Height 60 cm.
