More whimsical than the common Love-in-a-mist, this Spanish nigella boasts large, 6 cm deep purple-blue flowers and purple-red stamens. There is also a "spicy" side to this species. The seeds have a pleasant nutmeg scent and taste like a piquant spice. Delicious with pasta or on savory pastries. Traditionally used as an insect repellent in the linen closet.
