The 50 cm high plants first adorn themselves with glossy, dark green leaves and clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers in carmine, red, yellow and white. They open in the afternoon and evening and smell delightful: perfect for a summer evening! The young leaves are edible and can be briefly heated in a wok. The plant forms elongated root tubers, which have medicinal, cleansing properties (see internet) and can be overwintered frost-free using these tubers.
