Like all historical predecessors of today's sweet pea, this bright white variety is delightfully fragrant! Henry Eckford, the most renowned sweet pea breeder around 1900, named this top variety after his granddaughter. It was introduced in 1903.
It will come as no surprise that the old faithful Lathyrus receives special attention in our guide. Its enormous variety and rich history have made many garden enthusiasts fond of this genus of flowers. Old-fashioned Lathyrus varieties often have a history of popularity spanning many decades! They are characterized by somewhat smaller flowers, 2-4 per stem, with a wonderfully fresh and sweet scent. Where known, we have included the introduction date.
