The finely feathered foliage is followed, after a vigorous growth spurt of several meters, by a profusion of tubular trumpet flowers in a striking mix of white, pink, and (wine)red hues.
Annual climbers offer the great advantage of long flowering and flexible use. The Ipomoea assortment is steadily expanding into a "something-for-everyone" range. Regarding species names: I. purpurea is truly annual, while I. tricolor has thicker leaves and can be overwintered as a container plant. They twine or trail in pots or gardens, also beautiful as a hanging plant!
