An elegant, climbing legume for a sunny spot outdoors or in the greenhouse. This butterfly-flowered plant blooms in the most beautiful pure white in long flower clusters with bright green leaves and is highly valued as an ornamental plant (annual), not least because not many people are yet familiar with this crop. For the kitchen gardener: after flowering, short, fresh green pods grow with a pleasant, mildly sweet taste, popular in Asia! Pick them young, cook them briefly or braise them in, for example, Tarkari (Surinamese dish). The dry beans can, of course, also be cooked, but the water must be changed twice due to slightly toxic properties. In the tropics, the young leaves are used in salads and older leaves are used as spinach. The firm roots can be boiled or baked. Multipurpose edible!
