Cosmos sulphureus 'Ladybird Scarlet' / 'Carpet Red'
- Product number: 515070
- Origin: Mexico and Central America
- Latin: Cosmos sulphureus
A personal favourite! Beautiful compact plants with single flowers that are as red as possible. On dark rainy days and with little sun, orangey-red flowers appear... a surprising variation! Height 35-40 cm.
I read online that someone objected to the word "knalrood" (blazing red), claiming that my use of it demonstrated an "annoying Anglicism". It's funny how someone can completely miss the point. Aside from the fact that the adjective "anglicistic" doesn't exist, the word "knalrood" originates from German, so it is at most a Germanism. Around 1935, there was grumbling about the use of this word. This was clearly an expression of anti-German sentiment at the time. By now, the word has been in use for almost 100 years, which I think is long enough!
