The ancestor of our current marigold! Calendula comes from Calenda = calendar; around the Mediterranean, this plant blooms year-round. Incidentally, even here, during a mild winter, a flower sometimes peeks out... The plants are quite compact (40-60cm) and produce single, yellow to orange flowers, slightly smaller than C. officinalis. The caterpillar-shaped seeds are irregularly shaped and give our "filling girls" goosebumps! A yellow dye is made from the flowers.
