Songbird forms compact, sturdy, round plants with gracefully serrated leaves. Many layers form a double rosette. Colour: creamy white with a pink centre and blue-green edges.
Ornamental cabbage or decorative cabbage is best enjoyed from late summer to autumn (extending into winter), so don't sow too early. These beautifully coloured cabbages originated in Japan and are a colourful addition to our gardens or pots! Briefly cooked or stir-fried, they are a colourful addition to dishes. Their mild flavour has long been appreciated in Asian cuisine! The leaves of this type are double pinnate, creating a very fine leaf structure (like a snowflake!)
