The purplish-green outer leaf (with coral-red veins) changes to deep coral-red in the center. The leaves are beautifully serrated. The plant grows to a good size.
Ornamental cabbage or garnish cabbage is best appreciated from late summer to autumn (extending into winter), so don't sow too early. These beautifully colored cabbages originated in Japan and are a colorful addition to our gardens or pots! Briefly cooked or stir-fried, they are a colorful addition to dishes. Their mild taste has long been appreciated in Asian cuisine! The leaves of this type are double-pinnate, creating a very fine leaf structure (like a snowflake!)
