The mushroom owes its name to its clustered growth. This native Sheathed Woodtuft has a clear preference for beech wood, but also grows on oak, alder, birch, and willow. Characteristic features are its small reddish-brown cap and thin light brown stem. The cap, which is ± 1-2 cm in size, is a little sticky, which disappears during preparation. The flesh is cream-yellow. The mushrooms are best when prepared on the same day they are harvested. The Sheathed Woodtuft is an appetizing, crunchy mushroom, slightly spicy in taste, and very suitable for soups or ragouts. In Asia, the Sheathed Woodtuft is very popular and is called Nameko. This refers to a closely related species. UPON ARRIVAL OF THE PLUGS, STORE THEM IMMEDIATELY IN THE REFRIGERATOR TO KEEP THEM FRESH!
