Sweet Potato 'Erato White'

  • Product number: 409595.4
  • Origin: Tropical America
  • Latin: Ipomoea batatas

AVAILABLE FROM NOVEMBER AS TUBERS AND FROM MAY AS PLANTS.
This is a productive variety; you harvest large tubers and therefore get a high yield. The tubers also form somewhat further from the plant. They have a pink skin with cream-colored flesh. Due to its short growing season, this variety is certainly suitable for outdoor cultivation. You can achieve an even higher yield when growing under glass or plastic. In short: highly recommended!

Our active grower is constantly looking for the best Sweet Potato varieties for open ground or for the greenhouse. He offers us young plants in May-June and tubers in November, from which you can grow beautiful plants yourself.
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE PLANTS?
If you haven't grown plants yourself from a tuber in winter (see below), we have young plants available from May to plant out (after the last chance of night frost). The fast-growing creeping plants need space; plant them 40 cm apart and 80-90 cm between rows. Large raised beds are beneficial for soil warmth and thus for yield. Regular watering is very important during dry periods; professional growers often use drip irrigation pipes. Harvest at the latest before the first night frosts.
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH SUCH A TUBER?
Just put it in the ground outside? No! Cultivation is a little different from growing seed potatoes. It's a fun indoor project, in a warm spot. (From May, in warm weather, the job can also be done directly outside)
You need a propagator with a high lid, or you can use any suitable container or pot where one or more tubers can lie flat. In the latter case, it is wise to make a frame over which you stretch plastic for warmth and moisture retention.
Place the tubers (lying flat) in cocopeat 809620-seed-soil-cocopeat-briquettes
two-thirds covered with soil. Keep them well-lit, moist, and warm; the tuber will produce many shoots. Once these have grown 5-10 cm, you can break them off or cut them near the tuber and plant them directly into a pot or a swollen Jiffy-7 pellet. Every cutting will root very easily.
There are other methods, for example in water; just watch this video on YouTube.
