AVAILABLE IN WINTER UNTIL STOCKS LAST. AVAILABLE AS A PLANT FROM APRIL.
A typical tuberous crop from the Andes mountains (Peru), which also grows into a fantastic ornamental plant! In our climate, the plant is increasingly winter-hardy, although tubers and foliage should be well protected in case of frost. This versatile crop is gaining more and more culinary attention: the tubers can be chopped raw into salads for a spicy touch. The leaves and flowers have a mild cress flavour and are an adornment in any salad. After a few days in sunlight, the tubers become slightly less pungent. Furthermore, the tubers can flavour many stews or stir-fries. The climbing plant has lobed leaves, which closely resemble those of its relative: the nasturtium. 'Purple Striped', like 'Ken Aslett', produces beautiful yellow and red trumpet flowers from September onwards. Typical of this variety are the creamy-yellow tubers with red or purple stripes under the eyes. Harvest the tubers late, as they develop at the end of the growing season.
