Jerusalem Artichokes 'Red'

  • Product number: 409082.1
  • Origin: North America
  • Latin: Helianthus tuberosus

AVAILABLE AS A PLANT FROM APRIL AS LONG AS STOCKS LAST. These Jerusalem artichokes give a high yield. Stable moist soil yields the most perfect tubers; strong weather fluctuations can sometimes cause lumpy growth.

The Jerusalem artichoke is a very hardy vegetable and winter-hardy. Plant the tubers at the edge of your vegetable garden. The plant can grow up to 2 m high, so use them as a windbreak but also consider their shade. They can be pruned back in the middle of the growing season for more compact growth and to prevent them from blowing over, though this will slightly reduce the harvest. Harvest the tasty tubers in late autumn; they even taste good raw. Planting distance 75 x 30 cm, requiring 1.5 - 2 kg for 10 m². Tip: place a blanching pot over the plant in spring for tender, blanched first growth! Blanched, boiled, or finely chopped in a fresh spring salad, this vitamin-rich crop tastes bitter yet sweet. Add a pinch of salt during preparation to prevent a rather bitter taste.
