We exchanged this unique little potato with Stefan Griesser. He develops it for the creation of good regional varieties, and in Switzerland (his homeland), this potato is highly praised. One of its ancestors is probably the Blaue Sweden, which gives the skin its deep purple color. The flesh is light yellow, and despite an early-mid harvest, the tubers can be stored for a long time.
WE SUPPLY SPECIAL VARIETIES LIKE THIS IN A MIXED PLANTING SIZE. THERE MAY BE (VERY) LARGE TUBERS INCLUDED; YOU CAN PLANT THESE WHOLE OR CUT THEM INTO PIECES WITH SPROUTS.
BLACK OR PURPLE-SKINNED VARIETY FOR GOURMETS.
Black potatoes are an unfamiliar group in our assortment. The skin is deep purple to almost black, and the flesh is purple, marbled, or white. To preserve the surprising effect of the color, we recommend not peeling the tubers but washing them before cooking. Plant from mid-April, when the soil has warmed up sufficiently. Pre-sprouting in light or in a large pot can be done earlier. Do not plant them in too wet a spot, but ensure they get plenty of sun. The average planting distance is 70x40 cm; we recommend 80x40 cm to prevent diseases.
