Very good weed suppression for all soil types, loosens heavy soil and provides good ground cover. Mow before digging in: there will be no regrowth! Sow March to mid-September, minimum growing time is 3-8 weeks. The crop flowers after only 8 weeks! Very popular for sprouts and microgreens due to its fresh, pungent taste. Of course, the seeds can be pressed for mustard.
To avoid depleting your valuable soil, it is wise to leave the ground fallow occasionally. During such a period, green manure is ideal: it adds nutrients to the soil through often present nitrogen fixation; it suppresses weed growth, promotes bacterial life, provides humus and in some cases works against harmful nematodes.
