Semi-tall perennial plant with purple-blue flowers. Sow April to July. For good root development (which improves soil structure), you can let the crop grow for an extra season. Regular mowing is permitted. This legume can bind nitrogen from the air and store it in its roots. When mowed and incorporated into the soil, this nitrogen becomes available to other plants. Dosage: 200-250 g per 100 m2. The seeds can be used as sprouts and are then called Alfalfa.
To avoid depleting your valuable soil, it is wise to occasionally leave the land fallow. During such a period, green manure is ideal: it adds nutrients to the soil, often through nitrogen fixation; it suppresses weed growth, promotes bacterial life, provides humus, and in some cases, helps control harmful nematodes.
