Frequently used green manure, due to multiple advantages: very rapid leaf development, low susceptibility to clubroot and edibility of the (young) leaves. A frequently exploited advantage (sowing in spring) is also its ability to reduce beet cyst nematodes and root-knot nematodes by more than 90%. The latter is particularly useful in intensive cultivation of beetroot, sugar beet, carrots, fodder beet and chard. Dosage: 250 g for 150 m².
To avoid depleting your valuable soil, it is wise to occasionally leave the soil fallow. During such a period, green manuring is ideal: it introduces nutrients into the soil through often present nitrogen fixation; it suppresses weed growth, promotes bacterial life, provides humus and, in some cases, acts against harmful nematodes.
