Cultivated for over 2000 years! After the white blossoms, small, bumpy fruits appear.
The black seeds smell like cumin (with a hint of fennel) and taste like pepper and nutmeg. In Indonesia, this spice is called "kolonji," and in Russia, it's used in rye bread. As for the bloom: a beautiful, bright white love-in-a-mist. A distinctive feature is the absence of the green collar around the flowers. The seeds yield a black color, hence the name!
