Cats and dogs (and according to our ancestors, evil spirits too) dislike rue. So, a small hedge of this elegant plant can be a solution for unwanted cat visits! They can be pruned like a boxwood. The (usually evergreen) blue-green, playfully incised leaves and the insect-attracting yellow flowers brighten up the garden. A little chopped leaf in a salad gives a pleasant bitter touch and is said to improve eyesight. Artists in Mediterranean countries therefore sometimes take a "shot". The herb owes its name to its use as a bittering agent in wine and vinegar. In medicine, the plant has many applications but should only be prepared and ingested under expert guidance. Height 30-80 cm. Seeds germinate quite slowly: 3-6 weeks.
