The Dutch name refers to its surprising scent, when you bruise its (incidentally large, pointed) leaf: peanut butter! It is originally a Chinese shrub that grows on mountain slopes up to 2400 m high! Here, it is a hardy shrub that is not only beautiful but also useful and tasty, and it also grows well in a shady spot! The young leaves and shoots are briefly boiled or stir-fried. Medicinally, the leaf is renowned: mildly pain-relieving, itch-relieving, blood pressure-lowering, anti-rheumatic. The crushed seed is used to kill lice. Its white, slightly fragrant blossoms attract bees and butterflies. After flowering, red and blue berries appear. Prune this shrub into a beautiful, small tree!
