A traditional, yet dangerous medicinal herb. All parts of this plant are toxic. They are used for external swellings and bites, but it is also (historically) known to be used as a contraceptive or to induce abortion, so beware...! Nevertheless, the plant forms an interesting climber with pinnate leaves, beautiful lilac flower clusters and pods with wonderfully beautiful seeds: bright red with a black cap. Necklaces, strung from these seeds, are widely made in Asia and Africa, but be careful: never put the "beads" in your mouth!
