A perennial (but not frost-hardy) relative of Oregano. The hairy grey-green leaves and stems are beautiful. As the name suggests, this aromatic species grows wild in the Middle East.
The taste is a combination of marjoram, thyme, and oregano.
Not to be confused with Z'atar (a spice mix).
