First and foremost, this versatile plant provides an interesting ingredient for mixed salads: its leaves are tender and mild in flavour. The plant owes its name "lungwort" to the fact that historically, when the doctrine of signatures still guided the application of medicinal plants, it was used to treat lung diseases. Its proven effectiveness as a diaphoretic for fever and its soothing effect on asthmatic bronchitis are well-known. The plants look fantastic, changing from pinkish-red to purplish-blue (March-May), and prefer a not-too-sunny spot. An ideal plant for naturalising (a true estate plant) in the shade! Bees and bumblebees will gratefully visit the flowers. Get to know this family member of Borage in all its versatility…
