The Arabian coffee plant originates from Ethiopia and was later spread across the world via Yemen to places like Java, Brazil, etc. Of the 3 types (Coffea arabica, robusta, and liberica), arabica is the most popular. (↓)
It is therefore the most widely used: approximately 75% of the total worldwide coffee production.
The plant grows quite easily in a pot and can be pruned occasionally. In summer, feel free to put it outside, but protect it from the intense midday sun. After a few years, the plant will flower with wonderfully fragrant, white blossoms, after which the berry develops. When it is red, it can be harvested and peeled. Roasting or firing gives coffee its special taste: so go ahead and experiment! Bring the plant indoors in autumn in good time and spray it regularly in winter as the plant dislikes dry air.
