Beautiful plant from South Africa. The very elegant, orange flowers grow in clusters and emerge from a round bud cluster, several clusters one above the other. The plant is very popular not only for its very ornamental appearance but also for its calming, soothing tea, which even has euphoric effects. This is made from the dried flowers and leaves and drunk mixed with, for example, mint (for taste). In traditional medicine, the constituent leonurine is used against headaches, coughs, fever, asthma, hemorrhoids, and dysentery. You can find even more medicinal properties online. The leaves can be smoked (alongside tobacco) as a mild substitute for Cannabis. The narcotic properties are said to cause a calm sensation and euphoria. Fun for children: you can suck the wonderfully sweet nectar from the base of the flowers! The growth vigor is enormous: 1 m on poor soil and 2-3 m on fertile soil. Bees and butterflies love to visit the flowers, and the plants can overwinter frost-free.
