Sowing nettles? How could you! Due to the increasing demand for this versatile plant, I have studied all its applications: quite a lot… Many birds find shelter among the 1-2m tall plants, butterflies and bees feed on them, the fiber can be woven into fabric, the leaves give a green dye, the roots a yellow one. Young leaves can be eaten like spinach or in soup. Cooking or heating nullifies the stinging effect. Medicinal: blood-purifying, styptic, diuretic, anti-allergic and very nutritious. Give them a confined space to prevent them from spreading.

Sowing method: Sowing nettles: Sow in a fine seed mix of cocopeat, mixed with silver sand. Scatter the seeds on the surface and press them down, do not cover them with soil. Mist with lukewarm water until the soil (and seeds) are well moistened. A solution of Salpeter (809082) in the water promotes germination. Cover the seed tray with a lid, place it in a light and warm spot. Check for moisture. Occasionally putting it in the refrigerator overnight helps the germination process.

Recipe for Nettle Soup: Melt 500 gr washed young nettle shoots in a knob of butter, let cool thoroughly, and only then grind in a food processor (the color will be beautiful and green), add 100 gr crème fraîche and mix it with the nettles. Meanwhile, heat 750 ml of broth (herb, chicken, beef, or from a cube) and as soon as the broth boils, add the nettle mixture. Let it simmer for another minute, season with salt and freshly ground pepper if desired.
