A beautiful and useful North American plant! The red root produces red dye, which Native Americans frequently used in the past. As a medicine, the alkaloid Sanguinarine is particularly known as a remedy for gum inflammation or cough. The flowers of this poppy relative have pointed petals and are bright white with a yellow heart. Its modest height (20 cm) and preference for light shade and humus-rich soil make this spring bloomer a lovely garden plant, somewhat resembling a wood anemone. Very hardy!
