This compact Lesser Calamint is a beautiful blue-flowering, bee-attracting sight! The (relatively) large, striking purple-blue flowers are clearly visible above the foliage. These perennial plants bloom within 12 weeks (from a spring sowing) and will provide a sea of blue flowers all summer after planting. The sweet, minty scent of the light green leaves attracts butterflies and bees. This excellent garden plant combines well with other plants in a sunny spot in the border or in pots and also has excellent ground-covering properties.
The taste is spicy and minty; both the leaves and flowers are edible in salads, meat and fish dishes, potatoes, herb butter, etc.
The Fleuroselect jury praised Marvelette Blue for its intense purple-blue color, compact growth habit, and early flowering. Recognized for its excellent performance as the new generation of Calamintha from seed, this blue beauty will shine as a deserving 2016 Gold Medal winner.
