A versatile and mysterious herb! Native Americans believe that the plant enhances psychic abilities, and the Ojibwa tribe used the plant in religious ceremonies. Vermouth liqueur is a distilled wine flavored with Artemisia. Furthermore, it has been shown that the extract of the leaf and stem of this species has an inhibitory and even lethal effect on the fungus Phytophthora, which causes potato blight in potatoes and tomatoes (see www.redalyc.org). Give the plant a sunny, well-drained soil, and it will be perennial. In ancient Native American traditions, the tea was used to control many internal and external diseases and inflammations. A fun application is using the wonderfully fragrant, spicy leaf as a deodorant, for example for sweaty feet!
