From Zeeland to the Wadden Islands, this annual plant is a common sight, but also great fun to grow yourself! We don't know of a plant that can tolerate salt water better; for a tasty result, it's best to grow this easy plant in a sheltered spot (in pots or an area in the garden enclosed by foil) where you can occasionally provide salt water. Those who live in brackish areas naturally do not need to take any measures. Incidentally, the plant also grows excellently with fresh water and even prefers not too much salt during the sowing and cultivation process. The branching fleshy stems are harvested dark green and eaten raw in salads, on bread, or briefly cooked. A fertile piece of land ensures the most beautiful branched plants.
