Both the leaves and the flowers of this perennial, hardy plant are edible. Young leaves are delicious in salads, and older leaves can be used for wrapping dishes. The flowers have a mild, slightly sweet and pleasant taste, like soft lettuce. The plant structure of this relatively new plant is dense with bright green foliage, reminiscent of grape leaves! When the bright white, hollyhock-like flowers appear (Kitaibelia is a Malvaceae = mallow family), a wonderfully beautiful plant emerges, fitting seamlessly into cottage and farmhouse gardens. Due to its long flowering period, this plant is a good substitute for annual Lavatera and Malva. Give them a (fairly) sunny spot for years of flowering pleasure; the plant is very hardy. Height 120-150 cm. The origin of this beautiful plant lies in Bosnia.

Sowing method: Year-round in seed tray, first give 2-4 weeks of warmth (18-22° C), then a cold period in, for example, the refrigerator (+4° C) for 4-6 weeks, then slowly warm up to room temperature again, after which germination will follow. The seeds germinate irregularly over a longer germination period. Sowing directly into the garden is also possible; in that case, simply let it overwinter, and germination will occur in spring.
