This is probably the ancestor of our well-known fig. In the Middle East, Africa, and even in India, the fruit is very sought after and popular. In ancient Egypt, but also in Palestine of Jewish origin, ancient remains of this tree have been found, and it was often considered a sacred tree. The large leaf is heart-shaped, and the tasty fruits are shaped like the fig we know, 2-3 cm in diameter and ripening from grey-green, through yellow, to red. The planted trees provide a cooling shade and are highly valued in the "Old World"! Here, this tropical to subtropical tree can be grown in a pot, outside in summer, and moderately heated indoors in winter. You can also make a beautiful bonsai out of it!
