You grow them for their ornamental value and to feast on... The long flower stalks, at least 1 meter high, display a full, deep purple or pure white bloom (your choice) in a perfect spherical shape. We sell the original, wild form, which is common in Iran (Hamadan, at 1850 m altitude). In the Middle East, the bulbs are very popular in various dishes and are eaten both dry and fresh. After drying, they are soaked in water before eating, making them milder with fine sweet notes. Therefore, these shallots are incorporated into dough dishes (savory) as well as yogurt. An old, traditional recipe is included in the PDF attachment. Give this Allium altissimum a sunny and well-drained spot. During growth, provide sufficient water and humus, but keep it dry during the dormant period.
These beautiful shallots combine deliciously with other edible perennials such as the Perpetual Kale (831465) and the Daubenton's Kale (831470), for which we also made an offer, see 880147.
