ORGANICALLY GROWN. The Jersey-type, widely cultivated in France, with a distinctly slender, elongated shape. The skin is a light coppery colour and the inside is streaked with pink. The flavour is suitable for critical French cuisine…! Shelf life is very good (8-12 months), we supply certified, virus- and nematode-free planting material. The name Jersey refers to the supposed origin of the medium-long reddish-brown shallot. However, this is not correct as the official ancestors of the shallot come from the Middle East, and this material was then further cultivated in places such as Normandy, where the medium-long shape was selected.
Shallots belong to the onion family and, like garlic, grow into a cluster of "cloves". The white interior is sometimes streaked with red and/or purple. They have a strong, rich flavour. Shallots cause fewer intestinal and respiratory problems than onions and garlic. Many recipes and facts can be found at www.shallot.com
