This gracefully purple-striped garlic originally comes from Mchadidzhvari, Georgia. The bulb contains between 5 and 15 cloves. Thick cloves with satiny membranes. The garlic has a spicy, full flavour and can be stored until February. The young leaves are fresh and crispy. With a full flavour and a short, mild heat that comes later. Perfect for salads or other raw vegetables.
The plant forms a flower stalk that curls 270 degrees. This does not produce seeds but sometimes up to 150 small bulbils.
How delicious can also be beautiful... (or vice versa). This tasty member of the garlic family grows with 1 or more curls in the stem and is (therefore) particularly decorative. Spiral garlic is called hardneck garlic in English and is generally stronger in flavour than the so-called softneck varieties.
