Garlic can be planted year-round, provided the cloves are in good condition. Most varieties are available in autumn and winter. We stock varieties that are successfully cultivated in the Netherlands. Immediately after receiving, break open the bulb and plant the cloves in the ground: 2-5 cm deep and 10-20 cm apart. When planted in autumn, the garlic will emerge in February (or earlier) and can be harvested in June-July. Planted later, of course, means a later harvest. Harvesting is not obligatory; garlic is winter-hardy and can also simply remain in the ground. After harvesting, braid the leaves as you sometimes see garlic in stores and dry the bulbs in the sun. They can be stored in a room for up to a year! Cultivation is not difficult, but good tips can be found in our cultivation description in PDF (see bottom of the website). Garlic is said to deter aphids in roses, for example – worth a try!
