South African Garlic Chives 'Lilac'

  • Product number: 306015
  • Origin: South Africa
  • Latin: Tulbaghia violacea

A reasonably hardy relative of the Agapanthus, so for safety's sake, plant it in a pot, unless the soil is well-draining, then planting it in the open ground is a good option. Both the leaves and the (lilac) flower of this elegant plant are edible and have a mild to strong garlic aroma! The Zulus have a long tradition with this plant: flavouring, stimulating and medicinal. This green-leaved variety produces light lilac-pink flowers and, in addition to flavour, also provides us with much ornamental pleasure!
