A reasonably hardy relative of the Agapanthus, so for safety's sake, plant it in a pot, unless the soil drains well, then planting it directly in the ground is a good option. Both the leaves and the (lilac) flowers of this graceful plant are edible and have a mild to strong garlic aroma! The Zulus have a long tradition with this plant: it is flavourful, stimulating, and medicinal. This green-leaved variety produces white flowers and provides us with not only flavour but also much ornamental pleasure!
