Beef tomato 'Turks Muts'

  • Product number: 295535
  • Origin: Central America
  • Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum

Great "black" beefsteak tomato (actually dark red with a black sheen) that is particularly popular in the US and was probably named by Dutch people (but a grammatical error crept in)... The irregular shape and tendency to form a "butt" are probably responsible for that. The plants grow vigorously and produce abundantly and early!

The largest tomatoes in our assortment are called beefsteak tomatoes. This tomato owes its name to the larger amount of pulp (instead of juice). This applies to most varieties in this group, with a few exceptions such as the so-called stuffing tomatoes.

Names:
Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum

Sowing method: Sow indoors from March to May. Transplant into pots when seedlings are 5 cm tall. Provide plenty of light and harden off outdoors from April when the weather is good. Do not plant outdoors before late May. Tomato plants require a lot of water. For this taller or (in a greenhouse) climbing type, side shoots (suckers) must be removed regularly. Planting distance 60-80 cm.
