Beefsteak tomato 'Pantano' / 'Pomodoro'

  • Product number: 295469
  • Origin: Southern Europe
  • Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum

This traditional Northern Italian variety is also very popular in Rome. The harvest is excellent in good summers (25 fruits per plant) and the taste is very aromatic and full. Fairly large size with some ribbing and very little seed development: a true beefsteak tomato. Typical for this variety is the so-called green collar; the green part is also edible and wonderfully soft.

Do you often grow your tomatoes in the same spot, for example in a greenhouse or cold frame? Then diseases can develop in the soil, which rootstocks are resistant to, and grafting is therefore recommended:
for grafting tomatoes, use this variety: 291110 Tomato 'Landon'. As an aid, we recommend these grafting clips: 847520 Grafting clip 1.5 mm.

The largest tomatoes in our assortment are called beefsteak tomatoes. This tomato owes its name to the larger amount of pulp (instead of juice). This applies to most varieties in this group, with a few exceptions such as the so-called stuffing tomatoes.
