Beefsteak tomato 'Mrs. Maxwell's Big Italian'

  • Product number: 295454
  • Origin: Central America
  • Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, also known as L. esculentum

Mrs. Maxwell from Mexico received this tomato from an Italian friend. She appreciated the tomato so much that for about 30 years she consistently selected the largest, earliest, and non-cracking ones. Her son passed on the seeds, so we can now offer them. The robust plants yield a large harvest of 500-1000g heavy, dark pink fruits, 8-12 cm in diameter! The flavour has everything going for it, simply excellent!

The largest tomatoes in our assortment are called beefsteak tomatoes. These tomatoes owe their name to the larger amount of flesh (instead of juice). This applies to most varieties in this group, with a few exceptions such as the so-called stuffing tomatoes.

Names:
Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum
Dutch: Vleestomaat (Beefsteak Tomato)
English: Tomato, Beefsteaks Type
