A beautiful, deep orange tomato for a pot or for open ground. The plant usually reaches a height of just under 1 meter; a stake is better, but suckering is not necessary. The plant has beautifully hairy leaves and looks very healthy. This variety is reasonably productive and produces (when picked ripe) delicious, fleshy, and sweet fruits.
We read this eulogy online:
Coastal Pride Orange, bred by Dan McMurray (1943-2012), is hands down the best tasting dwarf I have ever grown. They are perfect texture, buttery smooth when fully ripe, and the balance of sweetness, tartness, and bold tomato flavor make them perfect for any recipe, cooked or fresh. Some make the mistake of eating them before they are fully ripe, but after they turn the deepest persimmon orange they will climax in beauty and flavor. The plants get over 2 feet in height. Suitable for in ground and container gardens. The regular rugose leaves are fixed to stems that need no staking, easily an inch thick. Most fruits are in between saladette and slicer in size. Coastal Pride Orange is one of my top 10 favorite tomatoes, my favorite orange. (www.goodmindseeds.org)
Do you often grow your tomatoes in the same spot, for example in a greenhouse? Then diseases can develop in the soil, against which rootstocks are resistant, and grafting is therefore recommended:
For grafting tomatoes, use this variety: 291110 Tomato 'Landon'. As a tool, we recommend these grafting clips: 847520 Grafting clip 1.5 mm.
This group of tomatoes is sized between a cherry tomato and a beefsteak tomato: medium-sized, in other words. Each has its own unique character. The climbing varieties ripen later than the compact varieties and are therefore more successful under rain protection: a lean-to, greenhouse, or growing tunnel.
