The name says it all: a hairy tomato! Small hairs, though, they disappear to the touch… The plant is completely covered in silvery-white hairs, making it very resistant to dry periods. The old name 'Velvet Red' also says enough. The result? A huge harvest of red, juicy, aromatic, and very sweet fruits 3-5 cm in diameter. The plant grows to about 2 m tall and has a fairly slender build. Joe Bratka (a tomato collector in the US) introduced this variety.
If you often grow your tomatoes in the same place, for example in a greenhouse (or small greenhouse), diseases can develop in the soil. Rootstocks are resistant to these diseases, and grafting is therefore recommended:
for grafting tomatoes, use this variety: 291110 Tomato 'Landon'. We recommend these grafting clips as an aid: 847520 Grafting clip 1.5 mm.
The smallest tomatoes in our assortment are called cherry tomatoes or ping-pong tomatoes, depending on their size. Some varieties are elongated or heart-shaped and are accordingly given a slightly different name. Some are even original, wild species. Most taste extra sweet, while a few have a sweet and sour taste. Cherry tomatoes are closest to the original species, which is probably why they are generally more resistant to the dreaded potato blight.
