The teardrop-shaped Linosa is one of the largest cocktail tomatoes, even though its appearance might suggest it's a Roma tomato. This historic tomato variety originated in Southern Italy. To be precise, on a small island south of Sicily called Linosa, part of the Pelagian archipelago. Don Giardino writes on his website: "When my grandfather visited there in the 1950s, he took this tomato variety with him and kept it until his death." The plants are very vigorous and robust; we recommend growing this variety with a maximum of three shoots and in a greenhouse or covered outdoor area. The yields are very good, and due to its great aroma and abundant pulp, it is suitable for traditional passata.
Elongated, sweet tomatoes with lots of pulp. In subtropical countries, this type is used for processing into juices, soups, ketchup, dried tomatoes, etc. Tip: freeze Roma tomatoes whole, with skin on.
