This crossbreed by Fred Hempel (USA) originated from 'Striped Roman' x 'Black Cherry'. The result is a tear-drop shaped, small tomato, which predominantly has a pink appearance, but on closer inspection also has orange-yellow stripes. The fruits average 25 g and have a very good, fruity taste. The yield of the relatively compact plants (90-120 cm) is remarkably large! Growing them in a large pot is an option.
The smallest tomatoes in our assortment are called cherry tomatoes or ping-pong tomatoes, depending on their size. Some varieties are elongated or heart-shaped and are accordingly given a slightly different name. Some are even original, wild species. Most taste extra sweet, a few have a sweet and sour taste. Cherry tomatoes are closest to the original species, which is perhaps why they are generally more resistant to the dreaded potato blight.
