Date tomato 'Datterini' / 'Dreams of Mengdalasi'

  • Product number: 291195
  • Origin: Central America
  • Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum

The Pomodoro “datterino” is actually not a variety, but a type. The oval-round tomatoes are praised for their delicious sweet taste and fresh aroma. The name is derived from the date, which in turn indicates the high sugar content. Datterini tomatoes are famous and loved, they grow well outdoors in most summers. The plants grow vigorously and bear fruit in long clusters.
Do you often grow your tomatoes in the same place, for example in a greenhouse? Then diseases can develop in the soil, which rootstocks are resistant to, and grafting is therefore recommended:
for grafting tomatoes, use this variety: 291110 Tomato 'Landon'. As a tool, we recommend these grafting clips: 847520 Grafting clip 1.5 mm.

The smallest tomatoes in our assortment are called cherry tomatoes or ping-pong tomatoes, depending on their size. Some varieties are elongated or heart-shaped and are accordingly given a slightly different name. Some are even original, wild species. Most taste extra sweet, a few have a sweet and sour taste. Cherry tomatoes are closest to the original species, perhaps that is why they are generally more resistant to the dreaded potato blight.

Sowing method: Sow indoors from March to May. When the seedlings are 5 cm high, transplant them into pots. Provide plenty of light and harden off outdoors from April when the weather is fine. Do not plant out before the end of May. Tomato plants use a lot of water. For this tall or (in the greenhouse) climbing type, the side shoots (suckers) must be removed regularly. Planting distance 60-80 cm.
