Cherry tomato 'Bumble Bee Purple'

  • Product number: 291176
  • Origin: Central and South America
  • Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum

A member of the Artisan group: small, striped tomatoes with a very good flavour.
These deliciously sweet fruits do not weigh more than 20-25 grams each and are purplish-red with glossy green stripes.

Do you often grow your tomatoes in the same spot, for example in a greenhouse? Then diseases can develop in the soil, which rootstocks are resistant to and for which grafting is therefore recommended:
for grafting tomatoes, use this variety: 291110 Tomato 'Landon'. As an aid, we recommend these grafting clips: 847520 Grafting clip 1.5 mm.

The smallest tomatoes in our assortment are called cherry tomatoes or ping-pong tomatoes, depending on their size. Some varieties are elongated or heart-shaped and are accordingly given a slightly different name. Some are even original, wild species. Most taste extra sweet, a few have a sweet and sour taste. Cherry tomatoes are closest to the original species, which is perhaps why they are generally more resistant to the dreaded potato blight.

Names:
Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum
Dutch: Kerstomaat
Also: Pingpongtomaat
English: Cherry Tomato

Sowing method: March-May indoors. Transplant into pots when 5 cm tall. Provide plenty of light and harden off outdoors from April when weather permits. Do not plant outdoors before the end of May. Tomato plants use a lot of water. For this taller or (in a greenhouse) climbing type, the side shoots (suckers) should be regularly removed. Plant spacing 60-80 cm.
